Discovering Bordeaux and the surrounding wine country by bike, passing vineyards and little villages before arriving somewhere peaceful at the end of the day – this is what makes cycling through the Gironde so special.
This season, we were delighted to welcome many guests to Refuge Luxe who had started their journey in Bordeaux or were looking for a beautiful stopover on their cycling adventure through the region.
And we quickly realised that our location in Camiran, in the heart of Entre-Deux-Mers, is a wonderful base for exploring the area by bike.
From Bordeaux into wine country
Bordeaux is a fantastic starting point for a cycling journey.
Once you leave the city behind, the scenery gradually changes. Urban streets give way to vineyards, quiet country roads, historic villages and wide-open views.
The Entre-Deux-Mers region, located between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, is particularly beautiful for exploring by bicycle. It is a landscape of vineyards, small roads, charming villages and centuries-old heritage.
Here, cycling is less about speed and more about the experience.
Stop for a coffee. Explore a local market. Discover a village you had never heard of. Or simply pause and enjoy the view across the vineyards.
Cycling, vineyards and the French art of living
The Gironde offers countless opportunities for cycling – from longer day rides to multi-day cycling journeys through the countryside.
For many of our guests, the bicycle was not simply a way of getting from A to B. It was a way of discovering the region at exactly the right pace.
On a bike, you notice things you might easily miss from a car: tiny country lanes, old stone houses, village churches, vineyards and quiet corners of the French countryside.
And, of course, every good cycling day deserves a good break.
A glass of local wine at the end of the day seems particularly appropriate here.
After the ride: arriving at Refuge Luxe
After several hours in the saddle, there is something wonderfully satisfying about arriving somewhere peaceful.

Our boutique guesthouse is located in Camiran, surrounded by the landscapes of Entre-Deux-Mers. Instead of a busy hotel, you arrive at a quiet retreat with a beautiful garden, terraces and a swimming pool.
Take off your cycling shoes. Put the bike away. Take a shower. Pour yourself a cold drink. Perhaps enjoy a swim.
Suddenly, those kilometres in the saddle feel very worthwhile.
Our three elegant rooms and suites offer the comfort you appreciate after a long day of cycling, including premium Tempur mattresses, air conditioning and everything you need for a restful night.

One thing we particularly enjoy about our cycling guests is their sense of rhythm.
Breakfast.
Get on the bike.
Discover somewhere new.
Stop when you feel like it.
Enjoy lunch somewhere along the way.
And then arrive at Refuge Luxe in the afternoon or early evening.
The next morning, continue your journey.
Or stay another night.
Because sometimes the best stage of a cycling trip is the one you decide not to ride.
